The WoW Companion App is gone: what a third-party site can and can't do

I went looking for the old Armory on my phone before building the card, and found a headstone instead. Here’s what’s left, and what isn’t.

What happened

Blizzard folded the Mobile Armory into the WoW Companion App years ago, and then retired the Companion App with patch 11.0, in July 2024. Since then it can’t be downloaded, updated or logged into. As of today there is no official World of Warcraft app for phones; the Battle.net app only covers chat and friends.

What the public API still gives (so a site like this one can offer it)

• Character profiles: gear, item level, Mythic+ rating, collections. That’s what our Adventurer card reads.
• The WoW Token price in gold, refreshed by Blizzard. That’s Gold in euros.
• Auction house snapshots, read-only, roughly once an hour per realm.
• Mythic+ leaderboards, guild rosters, static game data.

What nobody can rebuild

The Companion App talked to the game itself. The public API doesn’t, so no third party can offer:

• posting or bidding on auctions,
• the in-game calendar,
• mission tables or anything that acts inside the game.

If a site or app promises those, it isn’t using Blizzard’s API.

So the Armory lives on, just in pieces, on sites like this one. The auction house from the sofa stays a memory. — Gerlari
